It Is freaking official. I have catapulted myself to what I
lovingly refer as my delusional passion project.Hence, delulu. Originally, I was going to start with the oh so catchy ’Jessica Runs’ for the name of this blog but as I was running and sloppily training for the Orlando half marathon the name ‘delulu run‘ popped into my brain as I fantasized with the possibility of building up to ultras and beyond.Jogging a 12:30 minute pace I realized my natural tendency to take my mental grit and wrap it tightly with delusional optimism was a gift and a curse of mine and the light bulb went off in my head... Tada! ‘Delulu Run’ is born. If I am going to reach these big lofty running goals and go on this journey then I need to hold myself accountable in a myriad of ways but a blog is the perfect platform to keep me honest in the pursuit of greatness. Some people go on vision quests, others dig deep to find their true purpose in life, and others live to provide for their family. Well, I’m not religious, that’s a conversation for some other time,my family will be better if I do something other than provide for them, but when I dig deep there was something super fulfilling about running and writing that sings to my soul…so here I am.I‘ve only scratched the surface of running but hope this journey will help me achieve what I never thought was possible, heal past trauma, and become fitter and stronger than ever before. Some basic personal facts about me…I’m 40 years old and a full-time stepmom to a beautiful 15 year old stepdaughter, married to a husband who I love and adore but maybe wishes I didn’t dump so much running hobby talk onto him(hence another reason for this outlet) and a black Labrador named Odell who thinks he is a full time hunter ready to protect the home from the evil squirrels who are always trying to infiltrate the perimeter at all times. We live in Central Florida and conveniently right off a very popular trail that traverses through several towns in the area. Below is a pic of said trail where I’m sure you will see more pics of in later posts.
Finally, I also hope to inspire other women who think they can’t ever seriously start running because of their body shape, weak knees, etc. I want to address and break those stigmas I definitely don’t have a traditional runners body and we will get into those topics for sure. I’m athletic but definitely on the bustier side with weight to lose and that poses challenges in of itself. So, ladies..don’t fret and don’t be discouraged if that’s you. I’m here for you and you can always message me at Jessicaruns@icloud.com
